Subject Leader Profile

Teacher
Bonjour, my name is Madame Welsh and I lead MFL (French) at Roe Lee Park Primary school.
My passion for languages began in secondary school where I took French as an option. I was fortunate enough to visit France on numerous occasions and develop my language skills by conversing with native speakers.
In addition to leading French, I have also gained invaluable experience teaching Spanish in another primary setting. I believe that inspiring a love of languages within children enables them to immerse themselves in other cultures and traditions and play a valuable part in our multi-cultural society.
Languages at Roe Lee
Developing an awareness of, and celebrating different cultures and traditions is a strength at Roe Lee Park Primary school. We understand that early acquisition of another language enhances the richness and diversity of different cultures.
A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and broaden their perspective of the world. Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop children’s communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing by introducing concepts of how the language works in an age appropriate manner.
We aim to provide every child in our school the opportunity to experience a different language and culture through interactive and engaging lessons and activities.
Our intention is that by the end of our children’s primary education, we have inspired a love of language as part of their lifelong journey of learning and equipped every child with the skills that will open further opportunities later in life.
